Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. - Acts 2:38

This week I got to witness something that brought great joy to my life. Our son, Ethan, sent us a text to let us know that the college group at the church he attends near ECU where he goes to school, was having a worship and baptism celebration and it would be online. We were able to "be there" through their online portal and experience with them the joy and excitement of a group of college students worshipping Jesus with all their hearts and to see baptism after baptism, as student after student gave their life to Christ.

Near the end of the service, two young men stepped into the jacuzzi/pool, and we thought we recognized one of them. The one baptizing the other looked a lot like Ethan but we couldn't see his face at first. We watched them pray together and talk a moment and then the one student baptized the other. When the one turned around, we could see then that it was Ethan. What a cool thing for us to see and for him to experience. He had the privilege of baptizing a friend and being there for him when he gave his life fully to Christ, something he will never forget. We were so grateful that God made it possible for him to be part of that. What a joy and what an amazing thing to witness.

I love to watch baptisms, and I love to be part of them too. New life and a new direction are right there at one time, Jesus impacting a life for eternity. I will never grow tired of seeing God at work in the life of new believers.

Baptism is one of our great gifts.

It is a sign of death to an old life and of a new life in Christ.

...having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. - Colossians 2:12

It is an act of obedience to Christ in becoming His disciple (follower).

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, - Matthew 28:19

It is a key step of faith & repentance - turning from an old life to a new one.

Repent and be baptized every one of youin the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 2:38

It identifies us and unifies us with all other followers of Jesus.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. - 1 Corinthians 12:13

On Sunday, November 22, we are having a worship and celebration service as we wrap up the ROOTED series and recognize all that Christ is doing in our lives. It will be a great day in the life of Bridges Church, and I can't wait for it all to come together.

We hope too that it will be a day for baptism, a day for people to step forward and say, "I am committing my life to Jesus and I want the world to know. I am starting a new life in Him and dying to self to live for Him."

Have you been baptized?

Have you taken this step of faith and obedience to tell the world that you want to follow Jesus and experience new life in Him?

If not, are you ready to take that step now?

We would love to help you do that. Contact us and we'll walk you through it. Even if you are not near us geographically there are some cool ways to still make it happen.

We are praying for God to do amazing things in people's lives.

Look to Him and follow His lead. Jesus gave His life for you. Will you give your life to Him?
