The First Noel (hymn)

The First Noel the angel did say,

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;

In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep,

On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel

Noel (Christmas song by Chris Tomlin)

Noel, Noel
Come and see what God has done
Noel, Noel
The story of amazing love!
The light of the world, given for us
Noel

Son of God and Son of man
There before the world began
Born to suffer, born to save
Born to raise us from the grave
Christ the everlasting Lord
He shall reign forevermore

The Christmas Carol, The First Noel, is one of my favorites. It can be a very powerful song, and it can be very soft, almost a lullaby. It is a great proclamation of the birth of a child, and a reassuring reminder of the grace and mercy of God.

The word, Noel, means “Christmas” in French (taken from a Latin word meaning “birth”) and can also mean Good News – “bonnes Nouvelles”.  It refers to the good news of the birth of the King, Jesus.

Chris Tomlin wrote a Christmas song titled “Noel”, a call for us to come and connect to Christ not only through His birth but to His sacrifice on the cross to bring salvation to us. It is a song that asks us to consider the full reason for which Jesus came.

Christmas is an amazing time for us to come together to celebrate the birth of our Savior. He is the whole reason Christmas exists. It is His birth that we celebrate. Much more than a day to simply share gifts and eat together, it is a day for us to acknowledge that all we have, and all our hope comes from Him. He came to earth as one of us to be one with us.

This Christmas, take time to really reflect on Christmas – why we celebrate, why we decorate, why we take a season to acknowledge Christmas, Noel, the birth of our Savior and listen for His voice to say, “I did this for you!” Merry Christmas! Joyeux Noel!

Sunday, December 22

Join us this Sunday morning, December 22 @ 9:00 or 11:00 as we celebrate the birth of our Savior and King, and then plan to return on Sunday night at 7:00pm as we celebrate Christmas together in our evening service. Bring your family and friends and plan to get a family/friend photo in front of the Christmas tree to take with you as a Christmas ornament for your own tree.

Even better yet, plan to come at 5:30pm -6:30pm that evening for a soup dinner as we join together for a Christmas dinner in the Fellowship Hall. Merry Christmas to all!
