The History

The Backpack Program began in 2012 in partnership with McKenzie Folan, Second Harvest Food Bank and Old Town Elementary.  McKenzie was in high school and needed to do a service project.  He had played baseball on the field at Old Town Elementary and had heard that this school had many students who were food insecure.  He was able to raise the first $15,000 that it took to begin the program.  This program has provided tens of thousands of meals over the time it has been in existence.

Making a Difference

Many of the children in our community are food insecure and not sure where their next meal is coming from.  While they may receive food at school, the weekends are especially tough for them.  The Backpack Program provides bags filled with 4 nutritious meals each weekend for them to eat. The BTG Backpack program focuses on the children at Old Town Elementary.

You can impact a child's life with your donation. The weekend meals cost between $5 and $6 per bag per child. You can support 1 child with weekend meals for $24 for 1 month or for an entire school year (10 months) for $240

You can also volunteer to help with one of our quarterly packing events.
